Shale Oil Information Center has begun working on its first major attempt to Educate America about Oil Shale and how it can be of tremendous benefit for us. Follow the "Projects" item on our website's menu to learn more about the project.
National Public Radio (NPR) recently ran a story on oil shale in the Piceance Basin and Shell's "radical new approach" to extracting oil from the shale, their In situ Conversion Process. The story reports that Shell will soon be making a decision on going forward with their "Mahogany Integrated Demonstration Project", an expanded pilot operation intended to test all aspects of their technology together. NPR also reports that Shell may begin commercial oil shale operations as early as the end of this decade.

In these days of high fuel prices and increased demand on the existing liquid fuel sources, one wonders "didn't we know that this was going to happen?"
We have known as far back as 1956, when M. King Hubbert introduced the Hubbert peak theory, more popularly known as the concept of "Peak Oil", that this day would come: when present forms of liquid fuel production have reached its maximum capabilities and could only decline from said point in time.
Now is the time to develop and invest in realistic and feasible liquid fuel solutions such as the extraction of petroleum from oil shale and oil sands! America has an abundance of these two resources and the technology surrounding the extraction of fuel from these two sources have improved significantly.

Anton R. (Tony) Dammer, Director of the Department of Energy's (DOE) Naval Petroleum and Oil Shale Reserves, released on March 30, 2005 at the DOE Oil Shale Development Plan Meeting a whitepaper concerning the foreseen benefits of our nation's development of our existing oil shale resources. Mr. Dammer also gave a presentation on the nation and its need to consider using oil shale in the near future.
